Bellevue Society for the Arts announces auditions for Barbara Robinson’s THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, a delightful holiday comedy based on the best-selling young-adult book. THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER has become a holiday staple for theaters across the country! Featuring plenty of great roles for all ages, a few favorite Christmas Carols, and a lot of laughs!
Everyone is welcome to audition Sunday, Oct. 24, and/or Monday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. at 205 Maple St., Bellevue. Those auditioning will be asked to simply read from scripts, which will be provided.
In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids — probably the most inventively awful kids in history. You won’t believe the mayhem — and the fun — when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head-on!

The Bradley Family
Father (Bob Bradley) — solid family man, married to Grace, father to Beth and Charlie
Mother (Grace Bradley) — married to Bob, mother to Beth and Charlie, directs Christmas Pageant
Beth Bradley — the narrator, must have a strong voice and presence, large role, age 10–12
Charlie Bradley — Beth’s kid brother, age 8–10
Ralph Herdman — ragged, scroungy, slouching manner, a touch of adolescent cool, age 12–13
Imogene Herdman — loud, bossy, crafty, must be able to display a softer side as well, age 10–12
Leroy Herdman — tough, sure of himself, age 9–11
Claude Herdman — tough, combative, age 8–10
Ollie Herdman — looking for trouble, Claude’s usual partner in crime, age 7–9
Gladys Herdman — small, wiry, feisty, age 6–8
Alice Wendleken — prim, proper, does not approve of the Herdmans, age 10–12
Maxine — the Pageant narrator, age 10–12
Elmer Hopkins — shepherd, age 12–13
Hobie — shepherd, age 9–10
David — shepherd, age 8–9
Beverly — angel, age 7–8
Shirley — baby angel, age 5–6
Juanita — baby angel, age 5–6
Doris — angel, age 9–10
Baby Angels/Angel Chorus/Shepherds, ages 5–13
Neighborhood Adults/Church Members
Mrs. Armstrong — managerial in voice and manner, 50-ish
Mrs. Slocum — pleasant motherly woman, 35–60
Mrs. Clark — 35–60
Mrs. Clausing — 35–60
Mrs. McCarthy — a younger, less imperious version of Mrs. Armstrong, mid-40s
Firemen (2) — will probably be part of the backstage crew
Reverend Hopkins — mid-to-late-40’s
THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER will be directed by Cyndi Hineline, Fremont. Nancy Hardy, Fremont, will stage manage. It is sponsored by Janet Scagnetti, and presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
Production dates are Dec. 3, 4, 5, 10, and 11, 2021 in the Hirt Theater.
